“In Brotherhood of Evil the author begins with an account of the meeting of a grand council of the Mafia at Apalachin, New York, in November 1957, and the dilemma of Sgt. Edgar Croswell of the New York State Police when confronted with this gathering of the country’s most notorious criminals. Mr. Sondern then describes the historical origin of the brotherhood in Sicily, its appearance in the United States during the last century, and its growth and activities from the Prohibition era to the present.”
